Obituary of Jerry Papa

Jerry Papa, 99 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at home on Sunday February 17, 2019.  Born in Bridgeport, CT to Gaetano and Vincenza Papa, they moved to Caserta, Italy while Jerry was a young boy and then returned to Paterson, NJ where he lived for 65 years and finally moved to Little Egg Harbor 13 years ago.  Jerry owned the Diamond Bridge Avenue Barber Shop in Hawthorne, NJ and worked as a barber for many years.  He served in the US Army during World War II as a forward field hospital orderly on D-Day.  Jerry was an avid soccer and enjoyed watching the Soccer World Cup every 4 years and was active in the Dover Soccer Club in Paterson.  He was also a skilled Bocce player and a  team member that won the Sea Oaks Bocce Championship 4 times.

Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn Papa, son Gary Papa and brother Edward Papa.

He is survived by his loving son Peter Papa of Little Egg Harbor, sister Tina Barbieri of Toms River, niece Diane Papa, nephews Tommy Papa and Robert Barbieri, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Viewing hours will be held on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 3 to 6pm and Sunday February 24, 2019 from 2pm until the Funeral Service at 3:45 at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.  Interment will be on Monday February 25 at 11:30am at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
