Obituary of Robert W. Shanahan PhD
Robert W. Shanahan, PhD., “Dr. Bob” of Little Egg Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the age of 85.
Born in Paterson, NJ at St. Joseph’s Hospital, he lived in Allendale, NJ and retired to Little Egg Harbor, NJ in 2004. Prior to retiring he was the Vice President of Technology for Consumer Product Testing Company in Fairfield, NJ.
Robert proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1955. He was a Cryptographer and handled President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s itineraries. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Fairleigh Dickenson University, Rutherford, NJ, as well as a PhD, graduating Cum Laude from St. John’s University in Queens, NY. He was a life member of the American Academy of Dermatology and valued member – NY Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
Robert was the beloved husband of Patricia M. Shanahan (nee De Franco), devoted father to Kevin M. Shanahan and wife Linda of Ringwood, NJ, Robert E. Shanahan of Midland Park, NJ and Kelly Anne Reo of Centerville, OH. He was a cherished grandfather to Jason, Bryan and wife Rose, Daniel, Andrew and wife Jessica, Megan, Michael, Jennifer, and Danielle. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Carly, Carson, Damon, Calvin and Miles. He was the loving brother of Joyce Stanion of Lanoka Harbor, NJ and Renee Zierold and husband Fred of Franklin, NJ. He was predeceased by his parents Irene and William Wouwnberg, Patricia C. Shanahan (nee O’Neill), and sister Janet Egenhoffer.
