Joanne Ruth Macdonald M.S.W. Ph.D Little Egg Harbor, N.J.
Joanne R. Macdonald, 86, of the Terraces at Seacrest Village passed away Friday September 2, 2016.
Born June 21, 1930 in Newark Presbyterian Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Hector and Ruth Perin Macdonald. Joanne is survived by her sister Virginia Perin Guthardt and her husband Carl, nieces Deborah Joanne and husband Dr. Francesco Labbadia, Kathrin Virginia and husband Brian Boyle, and nephew Perin Davis Gulhardl, grand nephews:NichoIas and Christopher Labbudia and grand niece Megan Boyle. She graduated from Summit High School in 1947, Smith College in 1951 , the University of Pennsylvania School of
Social Work, where she earned her M.S.W.in 1956 and later from Yeshiva University in N. Y. city with her Ph.D. in Social Work
Joanne was a life-long member of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Stewartsville, N.J. where she sang in the choir. Jo created the Counseling Service in Lock Haven, Pa, where she lived tor several years. During Jo's career, she worked as a school social worker at Hunterdon Central Il. S. in Flemington N.J. and then was hired by the Hunterdon County Mental Health Unit at the Hunterdon Medical Center where she counseled for several years.
She lived in Manahawkin she belonged to and served as Secretary and President of B.P.W. She donated most of her professional books to the Southern Fducation Center or Ocean County College. where a new on-site library area was dedicated to her. She was a member ofNJEA, NEA, Beta Sigma Phi and other professional social work and college organizations. She most recently worked at the Frog Pond elementary schools and [he George Mitchell School in Little Egg Ilarbor as the social worker Cor the Child Study Team. Jo loved sailing! She and her sister sailed since the ages of 12 and 7 Wilh [heir cocker spaniel at Lake Mohawk, NJ, and continued on the river in Lock Haven and at the NJ shore and Bay. She loved a good time with her many friends and family. There will be a Memorial Service and intemment following at the church cemetery of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church 17 Greenwich Church Rd. at the convenience ofthe family and will be announced in the paper. Visitation will follow in Fellowship Hall after the funeral.
