To all the Pieslas,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at the passing of your dad. I'm sorry I can't be present for the wake and funeral (Our '98 Volvo is on its last legs). I can see by the lovely memories on his condolence pages that your dad will be truly missed. Personally, I'll always remember him as a warm and gracious person with a gentle smile who was very kind to me at all those many, many Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings and Sundays at Riis Park. And yes, I remember what a fantastic dancer he was! Rest in peace.

Dear Dad,
I am going to miss you more than I can even imagine. I am so lucky to have had you in my life. I am left with wonderful memories that have brought me so many smiles in the last few days.
My fondest memory of you is your unending encouragement to pursue my education. You were way ahead of your time concerning women and education-- such a devoted supporter of all my educational endeavors-- of which there were many.
You walked me down the aisle, watched my children grow to adulthood, and witnessed my membership to the AARP.
Thank you, Dad, for sharing such a wonderful life with me. Sorry that I did not achieve the degree of thrift that you had hoped!! However, in many ways you have influenced so many events in my life.
I love you dad forever.
Your princess

How extremely fortunate my sister, my brothers, myself and our spouses have been to have had so many years with our Dad. 92 is an impressive age to live to and in his case a life so well lived. I am especially proud to share his name. During this waiting time until his services begin, a wealth of memories have been shared amongst my siblings, family, friends and others who crossed paths with Dad. Kind and Gentle are words that have been repeated often and that are so very true. And boy could he dance was another. For me, Dad was the one who taught me the ropes of life and supported me in many ways. He was active in Boy Scouts with me, helping the Troop wherever needed, including every trip, Bowling Team and camping outing. By the way, he was also a very good bowler back in the day. He gave in to our "negotiations" regarding purchasing (with his extension of credit - $35) my first surfboard which allowed a door to open for many years of oceanic adventures and just plain wonderful times - thanks Dad!
He was a firm believer that education was the key to a productive and comfortable future. But I did give him and my Mom many headaches regarding seriousness with my education and, as he called it, "buckling down with the books". I was more interested with all the other things and certainly not school. It was a constant battle! In fact, he credits my wife, Kate, with getting me on track. He was right.
And it's funny that I became a teacher and Administrator - never leaving school at all until I retired.
Dad was very proud of his children's (& their significant others) and grandchildren's successes. He was always interested and inquisitive about what was going on in our educations and careers.
Dad was also thrifty, with a capital T. He loved saving a buck and especially loved his coupons. And when stores began doubling coupons - he was in savings heaven! Over the years we had lots of fun ribbing him about it and like many kids, I would spend it as fast as I made it. In time it finally sunk in and I have become just like him, maybe "worse" in that way. Let's just say that Dad has helped me become a richer man literally and figuratively.
Dad, you were a wonderful teacher who helped mold me to be the man I am today. You taught me to be fair, respectful, honest and loving. It is through those attributes that you will always live on. I will miss your answering the phone with your upbeat "Hello, Stash, how 'R ya?", amongst other things.
I love you, Dad, and I will think of you often and fondly!
