Obituary of Robert D. Begley

Robert D. Begley, 87, of Little Egg Harbor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Southern Ocean Medical Center. He was born in Orange, NJ and lived in Middletown, NJ prior to Little Egg Harbor where he lived for the last 18 years. Robert worked as a Ship Pilot in New York Harbor and as a Tug Boat Captain for McAllister Towing also in New York. He was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church, Little Egg Harbor. Robert is predeceased by his sisters; Mary Gaughran and Eleanor Monahan. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Blumenscheid Begley, his sons; Christopher Begley and his wife Dawn of Middletown and Matthew Begley and his wife Julie of Hackettstown, his daughters; Mary Beth Matuszewski and her husband Matthew of Kendall Park and Susan Gallagher and her husband Mark Rettino of Lakewood as well as his eleven grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 4pm to 8pm and Monday, May 18, 2015 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, 11am at St. Theresa’s Church, Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor. Interment is private. In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made in his memory to a charity of choice.
