Obituary of Andrew J. Kmosko

Andrew J. “Andy” Kmosko, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 31 at Emeritus at Stafford in Manahawkin, NJ. Born on July 16, 1918 in Plainfield, NJ to Charles and Sophie Kmosko, he is the third of four brothers. He was married for 68 years to Mary Ann (Riccardi) Kmosko. They lived in North Plainfield before moving to Manahawkin in 2011. After graduating from Plainfield High School, he owned and operated the Blue Line Parcel Service before joining the US Army in 1941 where he served 4 ½ years in the South Pacific during WWII as a Staff Sgt. Medical Technician. After the war he briefly worked at the Belle Meade Army Depot as a fireman and then the Plainfield Police Department. In 1947 joined the North Plainfield Police Department where he served until retirement in 1976 as Deputy Chief. He was an original member of the Maple Leafs Athletic Club of Plainfield, member and officer of the Plainfield Elks Club, member of the North Plainfield Italian-American Club, the American Legion and the VFW. Andy, affectionately known as “Beeps”, loved his family, his cars, his motorcycles and his pets. He was known for his service to our country and for his dedication to the North Plainfield Police Department. Andy was predeceased by his loving, devoted wife Mary, brothers John and George, and sister-in-law Jane Kmosko. He is survived by his son, Andrew J. Jr. and wife Louise, his grandsons Matthew, Benjamin, and David Kmosko, his younger brother Charles and wife Janet, his nephews Bruce and Craig Kmosko, sister-in-law Clara Riccardi and nephews Rick and Frank Riccardi, cousin Betty Graziano and nephew Tony Graziano, lifelong friend Sal Longo, loving friend Christy Simon, and the kind and caring staff at Emeritus at Stafford, who brightened his final years. A memorial service followed by interment will be held at 12pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
