Obituary of John Halvorsen

John Halvorsen, 97, of Ship Bottom, NJ passed away on January 30th, 2015 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, in Manahawkin, NJ. John was born in Norway in 1917 and came to America in the early 1930’s. He worked on several different yachts before WWII. He served in the US Army during WWII with special forces and was in the D-day operation. He met his wife in Scotland during the war where they were married. After the war he settled in South Orange, NJ and lived there for over fifty years. He worked as a carpenter and millwright. He resided in Ship Bottom, NJ for the last 9 years. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Halvorsen. He is survived by his son Kenneth and wife Ellen of Ship Bottom, NJ; his daughters Ingrid Halvorsen of Hamburg, NJ; and Gail Compitiello of Hopatcong, NJ and two grand children, James and Anthony, and one great grand daughter, Serenity. Cremation was held privately. Donations in his honor can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. A Memorial Graveside Service will take place on Saturday March 28th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Restland Memorial Park in E. Hanover, NJ.
